GEO-Cities Tbilisi report
Under the Environment and Security Initiative (ENVSEC), Georgia’s capital, Tbilisi, was the focus of the latest Global Environment Outlook at the municipal level. Released in December, the GEO-Cities Tbilisi report recommends increased environmental monitoring, a greater emphasis on renewable energy and modernizing waste treatment, and a shift to an integrated river-basin approach to water resource management. english version |

The Manual is aimed to help trainers at the training courses for customs and border guard authorities, environmental inspectors and other responsible authorities to deliver lectures and practical exercises on a broad topic “Detection and prevention of illegal transboundary movement of waste and other environment-sensitive commodities”. The Manual provides general advice to the trainers, a list of topics recommended for the presentation, offers teaching methods for each topic, as well as provides a list of recommended literature and Internet sources. english version russian version |

Environment and Security in the Amu Darya River Basin
The report aims at strengthening the links between environmental well-being and security issues in the region, stressing the importance of the Amu Darya River in maintaining sustainable livelihoods of the area’s inhabitants. The reports takes a close focus on issues of climate change, water, energy and agriculture in the Amu Darya basin, and reveals that it is vital to maintain cooperation in these fields, since neglect for these important areas means intensified security risk. On 1 July 2009, the ENVSEC partners organized a workshop to present and discuss the findings of the Strategic review of the ENVSEC Initiative. The workshop, made possible thanks to a generous contribution from the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, brought together 29 participants representing ENVSEC partner organisations, as well as partner and potential partner countries and institutions. The workshop was useful in doing the first selection and prioritization of the wealth of recommendations produced by the review. english version |

The land of our concern. Based on material from the reports on the state of the natural environment in the Donetsk Oblast in 2007-2009
Based on the assessment of 2007-2009 data, the report presents environmental situation in the Donetsk region (oblast) of Ukraine. The analysis shows the region's environmental, social and economic conditions, and the environmental impacts of economic activities. The report highlights issues such as air quality and pollution, water and land resources, climate change, biodiversity, waste management, health and industrial safety. Indicators in the report show environmental trends over time as well as map the issues within the region. Comparisons are drawn with other parts of Ukraine and with EU member-states. The report includes main findings and recommendations of the strategic review of ENVSEC, carried out at the request of the ENVSEC Management Board by an external consultant in March-May 2009. The objective of the review was to critically examine ENVSEC six years after its establishment in order to assess its continued relevance and how well its approach, methodology and organization allow it to achieve its objections.
